El Salvador
El Salvador is known as the 'Land of Volcanoes' with over 20 volcanoes, several of them active. Santa Ana Volcano (Ilamatepec) is the country's highest and offers a spectacular hike to its turquoise crater lake. Izalco, known as the 'Lighthouse of the Pacific', was once one of the world's most active. Lake Coatepeque, formed in a volcanic crater, is one of the most beautiful places in the country.
